Nuno Espirito is set for English Premier League (EPL) return after West Ham United dismissed Graham Potter on Saturday morning.
West Ham United are set to appoint Nuno Espirito two weeks after he was sacked as Nothingham Forest coach ahead of their Monday night EPL clash with Everton after holding positive talks with the West Ham board.
Potter’s tenure lasted just eight months, with the Hammers sitting 19th in the table after taking only three points from their opening five league games.
In a statement, the club said: “Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025-26 season have not matched expectations.
” A change is necessary to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”
Potter, 50, had overseen 25 matches since arriving in January, winning only six.
Despite a summer spend of £126m, including the £38m signing of Mateus Fernandes, West Ham struggled badly, losing to Sunderland, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Crystal Palace while exiting the Carabao Cup to Wolves.
Frustrated supporters staged protests before the Palace defeat, while Potter’s struggles also became the subject of viral online ridicule.
Nuno, 51, was dismissed by Forest just three games into this season, but he guided them to a seventh-place finish last term — their best since 1995 — and European qualification for the first time in three decades.
Despite that success, tensions with the Forest hierarchy over transfers led to his departure.
Former Wales captain Ashley Williams believes Nuno is the right man to revive West Ham’s fortunes:
“He will organise the team, bring fight back into the side, and galvanise the supporters.”
West Ham now hope Nuno can steady the ship and restore belief at a club still searching for stability since David Moyes’ departure.
