Imo Striker Queens and Sunshine Queens opened their championship account with victories as the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) championship began in Umuahia and Abiriba.
Imo Striker Queens began from where they stopped on Saturday when a downpour halted their match with Delta Babes in the 71st minute. The Imo girls powered to a 4-0 victory in Abiriba in Group B2 of the championship. The win propelled them to the top of the group.
It was a hat-trick from dazzling forward, Pattra Oparanmegwa and a goal from Osinachi Ugbala which condemned the Delta girls to a heavy defeat.
In the second game, Ghetto Tigers battled to a 2-2 draw with Moje Queens in a dramatic game. Jade Ebube opened scoring for Ghetto Tigers before Tawa Mustapha equalized for Queens two minutes later. Mary Atume gave Moje Queens the lead but Chidera Isaiah restored parity for Ghetto Tigers two minutes later.
In Umuahia, goals from Mirabel Irabor, Oluwabunmi Adenugu and Precious Edowor handed Sunshine Queens a 3-0 victory over Fortress Ladies.
With the victory, Sunshine Queens were lifted to the summit of Group A2, ahead of Kwara Ladies and Unification FC who drew goalless in Abiriba.
