Plumptre delighted for Ohale, Demehin after Zambia goals

Ashleigh Plumptre, Super Falcons defender, says she is happy for Osinachi Ohale and Tosin Demehin after both centre-backs scored for the Super Falcons in their 5-0 rout of Zambia.

Ohale rose highest to meet Esther Okoronkwo’s free kick and power Nigeria to an early lead in the game while Demehin added more gloss to the scoreline, heading home Nigeria’s fourth from another Okoronkwo free kick in the second half.

“I was really happy for Osi and Tosin, maybe just because they are centre-backs, and I think defenders don’t always get that credit, especially centre-backs because their job is really just to defend, but the fact that they can go up there, get the goals, and they’re both really good leaders in themselves, so they definitely deserve the goals,” she said.

She had praises for the girls as they were able to contain the firepower of Barbra Banda who is the current Africa Women’s Player of the Year and Rachel Kundananji, the most expensive player in the world.

“Do you know what, I always enjoy any game that I’ve played with this team to be honest, but I think because there was so much going into this game, and in a way I think some people looked at us and thought that we would struggle against this team.

“I think a lot of people counted us out, almost like we were underdogs at times. It was nice to come out with a statement win against Zambia, and that will give us a lot of confidence going into the next game,” Plumptre added.

The Super Falcons raised their game, brushing aside Zambia and the defense also has a lot of credit to take, keeping a clean sheet and adding two goals to the tally.
