Tunde Sanni, head coach of Kwara United, says his side will not underrate giant slayers, Abakaliki FC in the final of the President Federation Cup on Saturday.
Speaking during a press conference organized by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ahead of the anticipated final, Sanni said the Abakaliki-based side’s relegation to the Nationwide League One (NLO) will not affect the way his side will approach the game.
“For them to go this far, don’t look at their position on the league table, whether they are relegated. It is never our own concern. We too battled sometime in that area before we survived. We are not playing based on position on the league table but based on the fact that two of us qualified for the final. We are going to take it more seriously,” said a confident Sanni
“We can say that they have been beating NPFL sides, but we too have been beating NNL teams.”
The former Kwara United captain spoke about what victory in the final would mean for him personally.
“I played Nigerian football very well for almost 27 years. I have never gotten to this position and two times I was beaten by Iwuanyanwu National but as a coach, getting to this finals, I don’t want it to elude me.”
“I have been charging my boys. I want them to know that it is a very rare opportunity and that we should take our chances.”
The final is slated for Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.
The kick-off time is 4pm.
