Rivers United have been drawn in a tough group alongside RS Berkane of Morocco for the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League group stage.
Rivers United discovered their opponents in the elite Africa club competition following Monday’s draw held at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters.
The draw pitched Rivers United in a group which has a blend of North and Southern African powerhouses, each boasting strong continental pedigree; RS Berkane (Morocco), Pyramids SC (Egypt) and Power Dynamos FC (Zambia)
Moroccan side RS Berkane, former CAF Confederation Cup winners, are known for their compact style and home dominance, while Egypt’s Pyramids SC continue to grow as a continental force with their star-studded squad.
Zambia’s Power Dynamos, champions of the Zambian Super League, also pose a significant threat with their physical and fast-paced football.
Rivers United will begin their group campaign in December, with fixtures expected to alternate between Port Harcourt and their opponents’ home venues.
The Nigerian side will aim to improve on their previous continental performances and make a strong statement against some of Africa’s elite.
With preparation already underway, fans are optimistic that Rivers United can rise to the occasion and fly Nigeria’s flag proudly in this year’s CAF Champions League with the aim of winning the competition which has eluded the country for 21 years.
Enyimba is the only club with a record of winning the prestigious competition which they did in 2003 and 2024 respectively.
