Soof handball club, Air Force win nat’l division one championship

Handball Division One League

Soof handball club and Air Force are champions of the national division one championship concluded in Umuahia on Friday.

 

Having come from behind in the semifinal to beat Bayelsa, Airforce had a tough task ahead, that of meeting U-H Abia who are hosts. The Air Force team beat Abia 34-22 to win in a tense men’s final.

 

In the women’s category, Soof Academy which won their semifinal 36-16 against Edo came into the final in the same dominant way, beating Funad Academy 36-23 in a thrilling final.

 

In the men’s third place match, Suleja Shooters walked over Bayelsa to secure their 10-0 point while in the women’s category, Girl Child Academy defeated Edo Dynamos 27-21 to clinch the third place spot.

 

Okolo Joan of Soof Handball Club was awarded the highest goal scorer in the women’s category, while Suleiman Usman was the highest scorer in the men’s category.

 

The best women’s goalkeeper was Emuore Enifome of Soof Handball Club and Audu Salamatu Favour was voted the Most Valuable player.

 

Shuainu Friday Michael of U-H Abia won the best goalkeeper award while Samuel Achema of U-H Abia was voted the Most Valuable player.

 

The two finalists in the men’s and women’s category have been promoted to the national handball premier league.
