Lydia Monyepao, South Africa Football Association (SAFA) Chief Executive says that South Africa are not bothered with whatever ruling FIFA might give in Teboho Mokoena’s case.
She spoke at an event in Soweto. The SAFA official revealed that the association will soon reply to FIFA’s query and are ready to face whatever consequences, but added that it will not affect South Africa’s chances as they need to win their next two games to make it to the World Cup.
“We’ve received communication from FIFA about the investigation. We’re preparing our response to the disciplinary committee.
“We are not really worried about that. Our focus right now is to ensure that Bafana Bafana get maximum points in October,” she said.
On Thursday, there were reports that FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against South Africa for fielding Teboho Mokoena in the match against Lesotho though he was not eligible to play, and Monyepao confirmed the reports.
Mokoena had accumulated two yellow cards in the previous qualifiers before Bafana Bafana’s 2-0 win against Lesotho in March. Bafana Bafana must win their final two games against Zimbabwe and Rwanda in October to qualify for the World Cup.
