Team Nigeria has opened its medal account at the African School Games in Annaba, Algeria, winning two silver medals in badminton and women’s 3×3 basketball team.
Nigeria lost to Algeria in a pulsating mixed badminton event final held on Tuesday. The team fought gallantly but lost to the Algerians amidst cheers from an impressed crowd.
Nigeria’s second medal came from the 3×3 basketball team after an exhilarating final with Rwanda at the Chappi Beach Basketball Court. The game ended 11-12 in favour of the Rwandans.
The attention of Team Nigeria on its medal pursuit will now shift to the tracks on Friday, August 1. Leading the charge for medals is Miracle Ezechukwu, the reigning African U18 champion in the 100m and 200m events.
The medals were presented to the girls by Habu Gumel, the President of the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC).
