Williams Troost-Ekong, captain of the Super Eagles says the team is focused on victory against the Amavubis of Rwanda on Saturday and will talk on the pitch.

The calm, yet confident Ekong was upbeat that the Eagles can surmount the challenge before them against the Amavubi. Ekong spoke at the pre-match press conference on Friday. He also came to the defense of his teammate, Ademola Lookman, describing him as a true professional.

“All of us have really followed and are supporting him. The coach said he’s the best player in Africa and what I’ve seen these days, he’s even more motivated. The Lookman that we know is consistently professional.

“He works hard, trains hard. It is not my choice to make but I can only on behalf of all the players that everyone who is here is focused one hundred percent on the game on Saturday.

“We have had meetings among ourselves and the coaching staff and there’s been a lot of talk about the importance and the gravity of the game.

“We are really focused, we know what to do. We have worked and prepared the right way. It’s left for us to talk on the pitch,” he confidently stated.

Troost-Ekong thanked the fans for their support and promised that the boys will make them proud at the end of the game against Rwanda.

“We know within the team how much we want we to go to the World Cup. This is something that doesn’t even have to be mentioned in my opinion.

“And we’re focused. We appreciate everyone’s support; everyone coming out here. I know the stadium is going to be full and all the people from Akwa Ibom and how they want to support the team and how they love the team.

“We will give our best to make them proud. We appreciate everyone who has been on this ride with us. We want to make them proud of it and be at the World Cup,” he concluded.

A win for Nigeria against Rwanda keeps their faint hopes of making it to the World Cup. The game kicks off at 5pm at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
