Donald Trump, US President, says he will move matches at the 2026 World Cup from any cities he thinks are unsafe.

The President said this while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office. Eleven US cities are scheduled to host the matches next year as the World Cup makes its 48-team format debut. There will be 104 fixtures, with US hosting 78 of those and Trump says security is paramount for all the games.

“It will be safe for the World Cup. If I think it isn’t safe, we’ll move it into a different city,” Trump said.

“If any city we think is going to be a little bit dangerous for the World Cup, or for the Olympics, but for the World Cup in particular, because they’re playing in so many cities, we won’t allow it to go. We’ll move it around a little bit.”

Eleven cities in the US will host the World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico. The cities are Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.

The draw for the group stage of the World Cup is scheduled for 5th December 2025 in Washington DC. The tournament will run from 11 June to 19 July 2026.
