The Falconets are through to the next round of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers with a 4-0 victory over Rwanda.Â
The team got off to an early start with Precious Oscar getting an early goal in the first half. Fatimoh Adeshina got the second goal of the day with a fine freekick which beat Belise in goal.
The Falconets totally dominated the first half and returned from the break to continue from where they left, with Joy Igbokwe and Afolabi holding down possession in midfield while Janet Akekoromowei and Precious Oscar were constant threats for the visitors.
Akekoromowei got her goal in the 59th minute with a fine hit from outside the box which beat Belise. Four minutes later, Akekoromowei came close again but her cross brushed off the bar.
Kessiena Ojiyovwi put the ball in the net in the 65th minute when she nodded home Adeshina’s cross but her goal was ruled out because of a foul on Rwanda’s goalkeeper who was stretched out.
Dazzling midfielder, Taiwo Afolabi got the fourth goal in the first minute of extra time with a shot from outside the box.
The team had beaten Rwanda 1-0 in Kigali and won overall 5-0. The Falconets now move to the next round waiting for their next opponents.
