Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe inspired Real Madrid to a 3-1 victory over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, propelling Los Blancos back to the top of La Liga.

After being jeered off at halftime following a goalless first period, Real responded immediately after the restart.

Vinicius broke the deadlock just 90 seconds into the second half, cutting inside from the left before his deflected strike wrong-footed Villarreal goalkeeper Arnau Tenas.

Vinicius doubled his tally from the penalty spot in the 69th minute after being fouled by Rafa Marin.

But Villarreal refused to fold. Georgia striker Georges Mikautadze reduced the deficit with a fierce drive past Thibaut Courtois, setting up a tense finale.

However, Villarreal’s hopes of a comeback faded when Santiago Mourino was sent off for a second bookable offence on Vinicius.

Moments later, Mbappe sealed the win with a calm finish from Brahim Diaz’s unselfish pass.

The Frenchman limped off late on with a suspected foot injury, but Real’s victory lifted them to 21 points, two clear of Barcelona, who face Sevilla on Sunday.

In Germany, Harry Kane and Luis Diaz starred as Bayern Munich extended their perfect start to the Bundesliga season with a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Diaz opened the scoring inside 15 seconds to score the fastest goal of the Bundesliga campaign.

Kane doubled the lead with a low drive, setting a new record as the first player to net 11 goals in the first six league games.

Diaz added his second late on to seal Bayern’s 10th straight win.

Kane now as 18 goals in 10 appearances this season.

However, the German was substituted after a late ankle knock but assured fans he would be fit for England’s upcoming fixtures.
