WAFCON24: How Falcons will play Lionesses in Saturday’s Final

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will go all out against their Moroccan opponents from the blast of the whistle in Saturday’s 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations Final in Rabat.

Both teams will take the pitch at 9pm Morocco time (same time as in Nigeria) at the Olympic Stadium, which is expected to be filled to capacity as the Falcons seek a 10th continental title while the Lionesses aim for their very first.

Coach Justine Madugu has adopted a pragmatic approach all through the tournament, playing to the strength of his team and the ability of his individual players after a robust analysis of the opposition. He is very likely to do the same on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, Africa Goalkeeper of the Year in the past two years, is expected to start alongside defenders Michelle Alozie, Tosin Demehin, Osinachi Ohale and Ashleigh Plumptre. There could be a change in midfield as Christy Ucheibe is likely to start alongside Halimatu Ayinde for enough ammunition to curtail the quick passing of the Moroccans in the midfield, and Jennifer Echegini is expected in her preferred role of playmaker. Skipper Rasheedat Ajibade, Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo could complete the first eleven.

There is also the option of Deborah Abiodun to provide the tackles in midfield, and Rinsola Babajide to be on standby in case Esther Okoronkwo is preferred to start from the bench and watch things unfold in the first half.
