The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned South Africa for fielding an ineligible player against Lesotho in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

In a ruling made public on Monday by the world football governing body, South Africa has forfeited three points and three goals for fielding Teboho Mokoena in the game.

South Africa breached article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FC) and article 14 of the FIFA Cup 2026 Preliminary Competition Regulations.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has also been ordered to pay a fine of CFH 10,000 to FIFA while Teboho Mokoena has been issued a warning.

FIFA notified the parties of the terms of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s decision on Monday. South Africa has 10 days to appeal the judgement.

This decision cuts South Africa’s points tally to 14 and plus 5 goals difference.
