Jorge Vilda, head coach of Moroccan women national team has stated that the Atlas Lionesses are determined to upset Nigeria when both teams face-off in WAFCON final on Saturday in Rabat, Morocco.

‎The former Spanish women national team handler is optimistic of their chances, assuring they’ve studied Nigeria’s strengths and weaknesses, and that the match will be decided by small margins.

‎”Regarding the match against Nigeria, we know it will be decided by small details, as we have analysed the strengths and weaknesses of the team. We must be more focused and prepared because we are determined to please the Moroccan fans.”

‎”We are working hard in all areas to have a balanced team, we are focused on winning this coveted title.”

‎When asked about the Super Falcons chances in the final, Vilda admitted that Nigeria are favourites, however, being the hosts will serve as a major boost for them.

‎”Although Nigeria is the favourite to win the tournament, but the fact that Morocco is the host will give a boost to the team, which i am fully confident of my team’s ability to pull off an upset in the final,” he stated.

Morocco has scored the most goals per game (2.5), has the best possession percentage (55.8%), has the tournament’s top scorer, Ghizlane Chebbak, with four goals, and the best player, with an average rating of 8.1 out of 10: Ibtissam Jraidi.

Meanwhile, Nigeria which is second in all statistics behind Morocco. However, given its track record, is considered the team to beat by the major bookmakers and sports media.

The final will be Morocco’s second chance in history to be crowned champions of the continent’s most important women’s tournament.

The Nigeria vs Morocco final will be played at the Olympic Stadium, 26 July, 2025, in Rabat, Morocco.
