Weightlifting Federation to hold elective congress on Saturday

A total of 14 candidates have been cleared to contest for the presidency of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) in the election which comes up on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

 

Incumbent president, Ibrahim Abdul is seeking reelection to lead the body. The candidates have been cleared by the NWF electoral committee.

 

Four candidates are contesting for the post of Vice President of the Weightlifting Federation, five for Executive Board Member and three candidates are vying for Technical Representative position and one candidate for the Athletes Representative.

 

Iquaibom Lawrence Tom, Ibeh Luke Onwumere, Olarinoye Steve and Nwankwo Innocent Chukwuma are the four candidates on the ballot for the vice president position.

 

Lasisi Kazeem Aderemi, Okoro Louis Azubuike, Zana Umara, Hussaini Babangide Uba and Ini Okon are on the ballot for the Executive Board Member positions, while Onubaye Sefiya, Nwadel Christopher and Utobo Nwafor are candidates for the post of technical representative. Osijo Taiwo is the sole candidate for the post of athletes representative.

 

The NWF Electoral Committee Congress will be held at the Gymnasium Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja at 10am.
